You know your a guider when.....
... you keep a bucket of water by your side while cooking a barbecue.
...all your cutlery, clothing and kit for camping is named with permeant pen or nail varnish
... you carry your own toilet paper wherever you go.
... you spontaneously break into strange songs in public
... you keep a torch by the bed, by the front door and in the kitchen
... you buy magazines you don't read because they have a craft idea in them
... you explain to complete strangers in supermarkets just why you are buying so many Smarties, lollypops, cheap sausages, night lights, marshmallows, felt tip pens, matches etc
... your purse is full of old battered till slips for things you forgot to claim back the money for
... you buy your shampoo in little tiny bottles, then wash and keep the bottles.
... you have the urge to help little old ladies whether they want it or not.
... you know 100 uses for a scarf.
... someone asks for a volunteer and you find your hand is already in the air.
... you can't remember which hand to shake with in the office on Monday morning.
... you hear someone say "I used to be a Girl Guide" and you get her to volunteer in your unit.
... you have helped bring up other people's children...
... other people's "awkward" teenagers are fine with you and ask your advice
... you forget and put your hand in the air in a business meeting to quieten everyone down.
... your closets are full and they don't contain clothes, but craft stuff.
... you know more than two ways to light a fire.
... your handbag contains plasters, safety pins, a notebook, string, money for the phone and clean tissues/hanky
... your holiday allowance is given up for 20 kids your partner/husband doesn't know.
... you've heard the phrase, "Trust me, it's only an hour and a half a week!!" and you still try to believe it.
... you go to craft fairs not to buy, but to get ideas.
... you love the smell of wood smoke .
... you always collect leaflets and brochures wherever you go in case it would be suitable for your unit.
... you don't understand why other people find running children's parties so stressful
... when the lady in primark asks if you really did want 20 blue t shirts all in the same size
...when you always have spares of almost everything
... your car is currently full of either camp kit or fire wood that was free, and you could not resist it
...you find yourself trying to chat up unsusspecting men to try and get discount for your unit!
...The phrase 'it will come in usefull always comes up somewhere in the week
...your partner has to tell you to shut up after you have got to the 5th verse of a song, complete with actions.
...you find yourself talking to anyone, friends and family about what the girls did at the lasst meeting.
...any friends standing around get themselfs volnteeed to help at a event, even if they do end up making cups of tea and coffee and trying to protect the buscuits at the same time
.:D.Even though its really bad that ALL of the above cover me, i would not change it for the world i love it, i love the people and i love the fact that some of my best adventures have come through guiding. I love the smiles, i love that i can organise things, i like how i have learned stuff through it that a lot of people dont learn. I just love it all really


Made me chuckle, especially as I found myself demonstrating a camp song to a workmate the other day
